VoIP Phone system

VoIP is an acronym that is commonly used in place of a more technical term that is Voice over Internet Protocol. The technicality of the words should not scare you because you might have used the VoIP without your knowledge through platforms such as Google Voice, Skype, Viber, and FaceTime, where you communicated without actually thinking of the connection between you and the other party.

VoIP simply refers to transmissions of phone calls via the internet rather than using the traditional phone landlines. Under the VoIP, requests are channeled through the Internet Protocol (IP), the Internet, Wide Area Network (WAN), and Local Area Networks ( LAN). The VoIP converts the bits of your standard voice into digital voice bits, which are then sent via a network using IP to the receiving party. When the digital voice bits get to the destination, they are changed into analog telephone voice bits for easy encoding. You can easily make VoIP calls using a regular phone that is connected to a VoIP adapter, a VoIP phone, or even a computer.  Rather than having two lines in your home or office, that is the telephone line as well as the internet line, you will only need one to cater for your needs, in this case, the internet line will be of much benefit.

Technical experts have come up with a VoIP pie to help individuals understand how the VoIP works. This pie has three main parts which are:

ü  SIP trunking- this refers to how telephone lines are accessed through the internet

ü  Unified communication- refers to a telephone system which sends VoIP services

ü  Cloud phone systems- these are telephone systems that exist in the clouds. This means that you will not have visible lines sitting in your house or office

Listed below are some of the reasons why you should think about using the VoIP phone system rather than the analog landline phones:

Ø  Saves on installation costs since only one line, that is, the internet line will be used

Ø  It is more flexible in that you can add or reduce the connections based on your needs

Ø  Good internet connection makes the call connectivity clear

Ø  Gives a good caller insight, that is you can know who is calling and the action you need to take on their call

Before you install a VoIP system in your home or office, you first need to ask yourself the following questions regarding your network needs:

·         How many people will be using the service? This helps in determining the bandwidth of your network

·         How many ports will each user need? This helps in determining the type of phones to buy.

·         What are your future growth plans?

·         Are there any remote users for your service?
